Mother Meuse first of three new eye-catchers along the Meuse River

It’s going to be a busy summer for Kunst aan de Maas. Along the banks of the river you will soon discover three special works of art that bring together landscape, heritage and experience. The Bastion in Kessenich (Kinrooi) may welcome the first work. The Franco-Belgian artist Laure Prouvost created a monumental bronze sculpture entitled ‘Mother! Oui dream till the end‘.

The impressive sculpture shows an artistic interpretation of Mother Meuse, represented as a hybrid figure of a pregnant woman and an underwater creature. She is holding a pile of gravel topped with a flag. Usually, Mother Meuse will be fully visible but at extreme high tide, only the flag will protrude above the water. The water level, as it were, can be read from the artwork and can be nice conversation material for those who live, walk or bike here.

The work will be festively presented to the public on July 13 at 10:30 am.
