Mark Dion visits Herbricht
The American artist Mark Dion has been selected to realise the artwork in Lanaken. The 61-year-old Dion was in the country at the end of last month and visited the site where the work of art will be erected.
He took his time to explore the area and was welcomed by Mayor Marino Cologne and Alderman Dominique Terwingen. Rudi Smeets from Café Maasvallei (watch the video with his story here) was kind enough to open his café for one more time to offer these special guests a nice cup of coffee and a beer.
The artist will plant a ‘Tree of Life’ in Herbricht, containing animals and objects that refer to the surrounding landscape. The target date for the realisation is this summer. This new ‘tree’ will also be put in the spotlight during the Village Days of Neerharen in August.
